Abstract

SD Negeri 1 Teluk faces challenges in introducing Indonesian heroes depicted on the Indonesian Rupiah banknotes of 2022 due to limited educational media, especially uninteresting printed books. These books contain only simple pictures that fail to capture children's interest, leading them to feel bored and unengaged. Consequently, stories about historical figures such as Tjut Meutia, Ir. Soekarno, Drs. Mohammad Hatta, Dr. Ir. H. Djuanda Kartawidjaja, Dr. G.S.S.J. Ratulangi, Frans Kaisiepo, K.H. Idham Chalid, and M.H. Thamrin become less appealing and forgotten. However, historical stories about heroes play a crucial role in teaching values of politeness and increasing children's knowledge of diversity. To address this issue, the author designed an illustrated book using a modern wayang-style design and an exclusive encyclopedia concept. The research employed a qualitative descriptive research method involving interviews and observations as primary data sources, and literature study and comparative analysis as secondary data sources. The gathered data were then processed and analyzed using SWOT analysis. The result of this study is an educational media in the form of an encyclopedia book depicting the heroes found on the Indonesian Rupiah banknotes. This book emphasizes illustrations more than text and provides in-depth discussions on the biographies, struggles, and exemplary traits of figures like Tjut Meutia, Ir. Soekarno, Drs. Mohammad Hatta, Dr. Ir. H. Djuanda Kartawidjaja, Dr. G.S.S.J. Ratulangi, Frans Kaisiepo, K.H. Idham Chalid, and M.H. Thamrin. Keywords: Heroes, Books, Illustrations
