Abstract
The ionosphere layers E and F have a role to reflect HF (High Frequency) radio waves. Equatorial Spread F (ESF) is a Spread F phenomenon or ionospheric layer instability that occurs in the equator. ESF in the Ionosphere causes the amplitude and phase of the waves to be disturbed, called scintillation, thus interfering with the operation of radio communication systems. The study was conducted by analyzing quantitative data in the form of the probability and number of occurrences of the ESF (Equatorial Spread F) phenomenon in 2019 - 2020, to determine the time variation and the probability of its occurrence at Pameungpeuk Station. The author uses the IRI2016 model data, as well as Scaling data and interpretation of ionogram observations at Pameungpeuk Station. Then analyze the graph that compares the number of events with the probability of ESF in 2019 and 2020. The results obtained are at the time of minimum solar activity, the most variation of ESF appearance occurs during the June solstice. The daily pattern of maximum ESF emergence occurs at post-midnight (00.15-06.00 LT). The highest probability of 0.68 occurs at 21.00 in December 2020. However, the level of relationship between the IRI model and the Scaling data is not unidirectional (the coefficient is negative). The impact of ESF interference on HF radio waves, one of which is fading interference (signal submerged or reduced power level on the receiving side). Keywords: Scaling, Ionosonda, Ionogram, solstice, fading
