Abstract
Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) is one of the most appropriated techniques based on sending several information using wavelength channels in a single optical transmission. The principle of DWDM system is reduced the channel spacing and enhance bandwidth capacity for long haul optical communications system but it is not robust with an interference effect called dispersion, especially in high bitrate communication which is caused by pulses broadending that reduce the system performance. Dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) is one solution to reduce dispersion because it has negative dispersion value to compensate the positive dispersion in the system. The purpose of this research is analyze the performance of DCF schemes in DWDM optical network based on optical launch power in optical modulation. In this research compared three different schemes of dispersion compensation (pre compensation, post compensation, and symmetrical compensation)usingDCF to compensate dispersionin DWDM systems. The modeling system is used 40 Gbps bitrate DWDM optical network and 16 channels with channel spacing 200 GHz for fiber length 300 km and used erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) to overcome the attenuation. The research scenario is using input power variation for 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 dBm. The result obtain that using pre compensation and post compensation schemes using 0 dBm input power doesn't meet the standard but for symmetrical compensation schemes is reached the standard -12 . The result concluded that using symmetrical compensation schemes to compensate dispersion gives better performance. Keywords:DWDM, DCF, BER,Q Factor
