Abstract

Rapid technological developments make exchanging messages easier to do at this time. The thing that makes it easier to exchange messages at this time is the instant messaging application. Examples of instant messaging applications currently available are the Signal and Litmatch applications. However, apart from the positive impact, there are also negative impacts due to the ease of exchanging messages, such as bullying, planning to kill, and threats. Forensic analysis is carried out to search for and obtain evidence of digital crimes. This research was conducted to find and obtain evidence of the Signal and Litmatch applications by carrying out case scenarios and using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-86 method. This research used a case scenario by posting on the Litmatch application and sending text or image messages on the Signal and Litmatch applications. The results found in this study using the Mobiledit Forensic and Autopsy tools are images on the Signal and Litmatch applications.
