Abstract

ABSTRACT WLAN is one of the wireless technology developments that are strongly influenced by the selection of the right antenna. Microstrip antenna has been selected because it has a small size and thin so it’s very suitable if it is integrated in the mobile phone. One of the components that affect the performance and dimensions of the microstrip antenna is the substrate material. The simulation of microstrip patch rectangular antenna is using CST Studio Suite 2012 software by varying 3 different substrate materials and using aperture coupled as feeding method. The design parameter VSWR is ≤ 2, the range value of gain is 3-4 dB, return loss below -10 dB, 140 MHz Bandwidth and 50Ω of input impedance. Based on the results of research by varying three different substrate materials that is Rogers RT-5880, FR-4, and Rogers RT-6010 obtained result that by using the calculated dimension of the FR-4 substrate, the best performance was obtained by an antenna with Rogers RT-5880 substrate material (εr = 2,2) with 1,091 VSWR, -27,23 dB return loss, 4,815 dB gain and 319 MHz bandwidth. However, at 5.256 GHz frequency, the antenna with Rogers RT-5880 substrate material is superior in VSWR performance and return loss when compared with the other two materials with 1.0256 VSWR and -37,953 dB return loss. But if viewed from the side of bandwidth, antenna with FR-4 as substrate material has the widest bandwidth between the two other materials with 251,3 MHz bandwidth, and for the gain, the antenna with Rogers RT-5880 as substrate material has the largest gain which is 6,017 dB. Keywords: Microstrip Antenna, Aperture Coupled,Substrate, WLAN.
