Abstract

The development of network technology in the world is getting faster. There have been many new methods in networking, and one of them is research and implementation on software defined networks. The development of technology has also made hypermedia through the internet a necessity. Hypermedia of course requires a web server as a place to respond to requests from clients. This research also analyzes which web server has the best performance when handling client requests on software defined network (SDN). The purpose of this research is to analyze which performance is more optimal between Apache and Nginx web servers when handling client requests on a software defined network (SDN) based on the increase in load requests periodically. This research uses Apache Bench tools to perform Benchmarking in terms of the number of client requests that vary from 100 requests with 100 concurrent requests, 1000 requests with 100 concurrent requests, 1000 requests with 500 concurrent requests, 1000 requests with 1000 concurrent requests, 10000 requests with 100 concurrent requests, 10000 requests with 500 concurrent requests, 10000 requests with 1000 concurrent requests, to 100000 requests with 100 concurrent requests. With this test, it will know the performance of the web server from the concurrent request side as well, not just adding to the request load. The results showed that the Nginx web server performance got superior results compared to the Apache web server based on the average time taken for tests 99.73 seconds, requests per second 144 requests/second, throughput 1507.5 KBps and delay 7,42 ms generated by the Nginx web server compared to with the Apache web server which has an average time taken for tests 128.44 seconds, requests per second 103 requests/second, throughput of 1092.1 KBps and delay 8,25 ms. In terms of concurrent requests, Nginx is able to accommodate 1000 concurrent requests compared to Apache. Keywords : Software Defined Network (SDN), web server, Apache, Nginx, Apache Bench
