Abstract
The world of telecommunication continues to grow along with the increasing need for communication, information, and entertainment services for the community. Speed and fluency as well as large bandwidth is needed to cover all these needs. Ultra Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (U-DWDM) technology provides all the functionality needed to meet the demands of high speed, smoothness and bandwidth. U-DWDM technology is a system commonly used in optical backbone networks with a coverage of up to thousands of kilometers. Signal delivery in the U-DWDM system requires a power amplifier such as a Raman Optical Amplifier (ROA) so that the signal can be transmitted up to a distance of thousands of kilometers. The use of ROA can cause non-linear effects of Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS). This study aims to examine the use of ROA in the UDWDM system by considering the effect of SRS that occurs. The research was conducted by modeling the system using a simulator and using various variations of the ROA model. The ROA model used is a distributed ramp amplifier with forward pumping, backward pumping, and multi pumping systems. From the simulation, it was found that the design using a multi pump scekario has the best performance with the best average BER value of 1,34x10-06 and Q-faktor of 4,81468. As for the simulation with a variation of the channel spaciing value, the design using a channel spacing value of 50 GHz has the best performance with an average BER value of 3,99x10-07 and a Q-faktor of 4,94280 and from these data it can be concluded that the network quality is still poor because it is below the ITU-T standard. Keyword: dwdm, roa, srs
