Abstract

Technological advances are currently experiencing rapid development accompanied by customer needs for long-distance communication in order to send information. Satellite communication systems play an important role in today's technological advances, as the wide range of services makes satellites have more value than other communication services. The Transponder is part of the satellite that has the resource limitations on the use of bandwidth and power. So, to find the optimal conditions can be done with the calculation of the link budget both in terms of bandwidth and in terms of power. The Link used in the study is the earth station Bogor (Uplink) and earth stations Kupang (Downlink). The modulation system and the value of the FEC used will determine the bandwidth on the link, while it is to determine the power in the form of the diameter of the antenna, the frequency used and the power to transmit. So in the selection of these parameters can make the quality of the link and satellite transponder capacity will be optimal. Link budget calculations are performed using the modulation BPSK, QPSK, 8PSK and 16QAM. From the results of the calculation of the link budget, the modulation of which is optimal at the link Bogor-Kupang is the modulation 8-PSK, FEC 7/8 with information rate 2048 Kbps produce a percentage of bandwidth usage by 2.73 percent and for the percentage of the power of 3.07%. And also generate the value of the C/N of 25,86 dB. Get the value of Eb/No of 21.3 dB with AIR 3,42x10-11. Keywords: Link Budget, bandwidth, power, modulations
