Abstract

Submarine Cable Communication System is a communication that is deployed under the sea which is used to connect networks between islands or between countries. The Rungkut Takisung Line has a distance 439 km. Longer increasing the distance use, the greater loss caused by attenuation and chromatic dispersion. Because that, an amplifier is needed to amplifier the optical signal drop along the cable line. The choice an amplifier can affect the performance the system used. This study analyzes the performance of the amplifier using repeatered and cascade scheme. In the variation power using 0 dBm, 2 dBm and 4 dBm power. Based on the specified parameters, the simulation results show that the more optimal value is found in the EDFA amplifier with a power 4 dBm. The Rungkut - Takisung path in the EDFA amplifier simulation with a frequency 40 Hz produces a BER value 3,706 x 10-9 , the Q-Factor 6,071, the SNR has a value 43,289 dB and the receiver power is -8,286 dBm. The 100 Hz EDFA amplifier produces a BER value 2.88 x 10- 9 , the Q-Factor is 6.793, the SNR has a value of 40.632 dB and the receiver power is 8.285 dBm. The 40 Hz ROA amplifier produces a BER value of 2.96 x 10-12, the QFactor is 6.813, the SNR has a value 37.294 dB and the receiver power 10.911 dBm. And the 100 Hz frequency ROA amplifier produces a BER value 3.23 x 10-12, the QFactor is 6.782, the SNR has a value 36.749 dB and the receiver power is 10.596 dBm. From the overall results, the scores obtained have met the ITU-T standards that have been set. Keywords : amplifier, edfa, power receive, optical fiber
