Abstract

At present, almost all of the networks built by PT Telkom are migrated to fiber optic cables. Fiber optic cable is a type of cable made of glass fibers that can transmit light signals from one place to another. Fiber optic cable also has advantages, namely it can increase the total channel, large bandwidth, expertise in transmitting data at high speed, not affected by electromagnetic waves. Because this fiber optic network is almost used throughout Indonesia, so if a problem occurs, troubleshoot is necessary. Measurement is one of the troubleshoot performed on optical fiber networks. The tool commonly used to measure fiber optic networks is an OTDR. With this OTDR, you can find out the length of the fiber optic cable, the total attenuation, and the position of the broken fiber optic cable. If the fiber optic cable breaks, a technician needs to be connected so that it can be reused. In this practical work report, the connection and monitoring of fiber optic cables through an OTDR has been carried out according to technical directions at the KP location. Keywords: optical fiber, OTDR, troubleshoot
