Abstract

Wireless sensor network is a wireless network that requires low power and wide range. There are three easy wireless data communication options in terms of installation and have low power consumption for wireless sensor network infrastructure, including Bluetooth (802.15.1), WI-Fi (802.11) and Zigbee (802.15.4). Based on the comparison between Bluetooth, WI-Fi and Zigbee got the conclusion that Zigbee technology is so superior that the purpose of this research is to analyze performance and compare Zigbee wireless communication protocol (IEEE 802.15.4) in three wireless sensor network topologies such as star, cluster tree, and mesh. The performance measurements of this research use the real device using Arduino Uno as the microcontroller and also the XBee module as a transceiver device that supports the Zigbee protocol. Parameters measured include throughput, packet loss, and delay which is a standard QOS in a network. Based on the results of the research, the star topology is a topology with a maximum throughput value of 6.61 Kbps, the smallest packet loss value of 0 %, and minimum delay value of 35 ms. The superiority of the star topology is influenced by the network configuration that does not use multi-hop (router) so that data is received directly by the coordinator. Another problem with using the Zigbee protocol is the background traffic that causes the quality of the network to increase with the number of additional nodes.
