Abstract
The objective of this paper is to design the use of Al Muraja’ah and Al Qiraatu ‘Alaih methods in teaching-learning English pronunciation in Islamic Boarding School. Students who join with Tahfidzul Qur’an program in Islamic Boarding School are familiar with these methods. The core accomplishments of the teaching-learning process were (1) building knowledge of the field related to English pronunciation, (2) modeling of the English pronunciation, (3) practicing to pronounce the English words and texts in group and pairs, and (4) independent pronunciation. This study involved 17 students of Islamic Boarding School of Baitul Mahmud Purwokerto. They consist of 8 male and 9 female students who also become the students of home schooling of junior high school. The texts that they had to master were designed to cope with the level of junior high school. To know their success in learning English pronunciation, I set two indicators previously, namely process (students’ participation and involvement) and product (students’ achievement in English pronunciation). The conclusion of the study indicates that the use of Al Muraja’ah and Al Qiraatu ‘Alaih methods in teaching-learning English pronunciation has successfully improved students’ skills not only pronunciation but also other skills such as speaking, reading, and writing. Keywords: Al Muraja’ah Method, Al Qiraatu ‘Alaih Method, TeachingLearning English Pronunciation, Islamic Boarding School.
