Abstract

Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) is the another name of Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR). This system is used to secure the air defense from enemy attacks. Unlike the Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR) which works only by emitting electromagnetic waves and receiving wave reflection from the target, the SSR is connected to a device called transponder that is in the cockpit of the aircraft. The transponder works as a radio signal transmitter from the cockpit of the aircraft. Interrogators transmits radio signals at a frequency of 1.03 GHz and the transponder will translate the signal and reply to the signal at a frequency of 1.09 GHz. Signal replies will be sent to the IFF antenna for processing and forwarded to the responder. Based on these conditions, this research tries to design an array dipole antenna working at a frequency of 1.06GHz. This research concluded that the gain will increase when the antenna is arrayed, and return loss is below -20dB. Keyword : Identification Friend of Foe, dipole array, gain, return loss.
