Abstract
The development of communication in the train transportation has developed quite rapidly over time. Before using optical fiber, all stations in Daop 5 still used copper cables as media communication for their data. Right now train technology uses wireless networks or uses microwave waves that are transmitted point-to-point between stations. The frequency of the first wireless network uses 4 GHz, but the signal received is often interference between mobile phones. Then the train changed its frequency to 8 GHz. This frequency is specific to train communication with existing stations. But with a great distance of 15 km, and geographical topological conditions that have uneven contour areas, passing through hilly areas and there are many obstacles, are factors that affect signal quality, especially when it is raining. Fiber To The Tower (FTTT) is the right solution to overcome the above case, if applied to replace a point-to-point microwave transmission system. In this design, the FTTT design is designed to be used to connect between stations and send data communications quickly. With the transmitter located at Bukit Watu Meja which is 15 km from the purwokerto station. Based on the simulation results, the Power Link Budget (PLB) parameter value is 8.6 dB. The results of design performance for BER and Q-Factor in the design simulation obtained a result of 2 dBm with a Q-Factor value of 6,31915. From the results of BER and Q-Factor, it can be said that it meets ITU-T G.984 standard with the ideal value of BER in optical fiber transmission that is 10-9, and the ideal value for Q-Factor is 6. Keywords : FTTT, Fiber Optic, Wireless, BER
