Abstract

The rapid development of communication technology demands a high level of QoS, the increasing number of users or clients to access the network has resulted in more network traffic that requires telecommunication operators to adjust client needs. The technology that can be used to overcome this problem is DWDM (Dense Wavelength Digital Multiplexing) using fiber optics as transmission medium. DWDM technology operates in signals and optical domains that provide the advantage of large transmission capacity in telecommunications networks. In the system of DWDM make use of the light’s wavelength difference as information channels, so that multiplexed informations will be transmitted by single optical fiber with different light’s wavelength. which is making it possible to increase capacity without installing new optical cables. PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Witel Bandung is a telecommunication provider company where the author did the practical work The company uses DWDM technology as the main technology to conduct backbone lines using ZTE DWDM devices to meet their needs. The capacity on this ZTE DWDM device is 40λ, where 1λ = 10 Ghz and works on the 1530 nm - 1565 nm wavelength band (conventional band). But for the path of LembongGegerkalong is not installed DWDM yet, so it must be installed by DWDM technology. Some modules are needed to run this device such as SOTU, SOP, OMU, ODU, SEOBA, SSDMR, SOSC, and LACG. After all module was installed and function properly, the result is DWDM link was installed successfully and ready to filled in by clients.
