Abstract

WiFi is a popular technolgy that makes it possible to create a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) quickly and easily. On a WLAN device, an antenna is used as a component that emits radio signals as transmission medium. Antenna used in WiFi, generally a microstrip antenna duet o its small dimensions and light weight, making it easy ini fabrication and mobility of use. However, this antenna also has disadvantages, in example the narrow bandwidth. In this study, an E-shaped patch antenna design is used because of its advantage that is able to obtain wide bandwidth. E-shaped patch microstrip antenna uses 2 slots which cause the formation of two resonant frequencies, then by changing the patch width, patch length, slot width, slot length, and the distance between the two slots, the two resonant frequencies can be brought together so that they form a single resonant frequency with wider bandwidth. The antenna is designed using CST Studio Suite 2016 application to operated at 2,4 GHz frequency with coaxial probe feeding technique, using FR-4 substrate material with a dielectric constant 4,3. The designed antenna can operate from frequency 2,3827 GHz to 2,4954 GHz or 112,7 MHz in bandwidth, average gain is 0,960 dB, return loss -16,888 dB, and VSWR 1,334. Keywords: Microstrip antenna, E-shaped patch, Wireless Fidelity, 2,4 GHz, CST Studio Suite.
