Abstract

ABSTRACT LTE users always increased significantly in every year, especially in big cities like Jakarta and Solo. Therefore, careful planning needs to be done on any LTE network architechture, one of the which is the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) planning. The dimensioning process that carried out in the 4G LTE core network planning are calculation of the number of network elements that include MSC Server, HSS, MME, and SGW/PDN-GW, also EPC 4G LTE bandwidth interface calculation. The planning will be done through several steps, starting from survey the number of subscriber in Jakarta and Solo in the base year of planning(2017), forecasting the number of subscribers in the final years of planning (2022), dimensioning network element and bandwidth interface required, and the last step is comparing and analysis the planning result of core network needs in Jakarta and Solo. From the planning, the result of forecasting the number of subscriber in Jakarta in 2022 is 17.714.974 subscriber, and need at least 6 MSC Server, 1 HSS, 2 MME, and 2 SGW/PDN-GW. While in Solo in 2022 in predicted to have 10.158.883 subscriber, and require at least 5 piesces MSC Server, 1 HSS, 2 MME, and 2 SGW/PDN-GW. For interface requirements, in Jakarta it requires bandwidth of 0,492 Gbps for the control plane interface (S6a, S10, S11, S1-MME, and S5/S8 control plane), and 24,604 Gbps for user plane interface (S5/S8 user plane, S1-U, and SGi). While in Solo requires a bandwidth of 0,282 Gbps on the control plane interface, and 14.110 Gbps on the user plane interface. The different needs of network elements and bandwidth interfaces are influenced by several things such ad device specifications used and also number of subscribers in the planning year.
