Abstract
The development of telecommunication technology increased with the high demand of data communication services. To realize the condition is required OFDM technology. The OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system is a transmission technique that uses multiple (orthogonal) subcarrier frequencies (multicarriers). The OFDM system is used to transmit generally large multimedia data with a fairly high data rate. High-speed data transmission will cause multipath fading that affects the value of BER (Bit Error Rate). Then simulated in the OFDM system to get a small BER value. The OFDM system simulation is done by modulating 16 QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) with AWGN and Rayleigh Fading canals in Matlab software. The results obtained indicate that the smaller the value of BER is obtained, it indicates that the communication will be better. This is indicated by BER and SER getting smaller with increasing SNR, 0.4882 and 0.9335 for SNR value of 2 dB in AWGN channel, while in Rayleigh Fading channel it is found that BER and SER values are getting smaller 0.462 and 0.9166 for SNR 2 value dB. For capacity in AWGN and Rayleigh Fading channels, the higher the SNR value, the channel capacity increases. Keywords: 16 QAM, OFDM, BER, AWGN, Rayleigh Fading
