Abstract
When transmitting process using Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technique, signal attenuation occurs as the transmission distance increases. Optical amplifier can be used to overcome signal attenuation that occurs during the transmission process in a fiber optic communication system. In this study DWDM system design will be carried out using 8 channels with 0.8 nm channel spacing and 8 dBm laser input power and 2.5 Gbps bitrate. Optical amplifiers used in this study are Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA), Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA), and Raman Optical Amplifier (ROA) which will be placed as inline amplifiers. The study was divided into 3 scenarios by varying the length of optical links 100, 150, and 200 Km. Based on the results of testing that has been done with an optical link length of 100 Km optical amplifier ROA produces the best performance with Q-factor 85,752 and BER 0 values, while at optical link distance 150 Km EDFA optical amplifier gets the best performance with Q-factor value 47.627 and BER 0. And for the link length of 200 Km EDFA optical amplifier gets the best performance with Q-factor 15,062 and BER 5.76E-047. Based on the test results obtained, the type of EDFA optical amplifier has good performance for use in long distance optical fiber communication. Keywords: DWDM, SOA, EDFA, ROA, Q-factor, BER
