Abstract

ABSTRACT Radio over fiber (RoF) is a technology that combines a radio transmission with optical transmission where the radio signal is modulated in a modulated light already and transmitted in optical networks. Radio over Fiber offers a range of benefits such as the wide bandwidth, low damping resistance to interference, and could for long distance transmission. Radio service needs (wireless) does not currently require only voice service but also need a broadband service that requires huge bandwidth, high speed, and flexibility of the network, so that the transmission of the RoF is the right choice to increase the capacity of being several times using the modulation. One method of modulation signals with a carrier signal is a Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) signals that change information submitted be symbols, then multiplied by a carrier signal frequency higher than the frequency of the signal information. 128-QAM modulator is one type of modulator that is able to modulate the signal frequency is high with a large bit rate and probability of error is lower compared to ASK, FSK, and PSK. The study of detection technique using coherent detection with 128-QAM modulator using Optisystem 14 software to analyze network performance parameters based on RoF Bit Error Rate (BER), the Symbol Error Rate (SER), and the Error Vector Magnitude (EVM). Based on the results of the simulation showed in general the greater the power of the input then the smaller value of the BER, SER, and EVM. BER performance of the best resulting from high input power, for the length of the fiber 10 km best input power 0 dBm with a value of 0 dBm with a value of 0.001450028. The performance of the best SER resulting from high input power, for the length of the fiber 10 km best input power 0 dBm with a value of 0.00267037. EVM performance best generated from input, for long fiber 10 km best input power 0 dBm with a value of 3.1884145%. Based on the variation of the input power with long fiber on simulation experiment 2 produce a performance of BER, SER, and EVM of better than experiment 1.
