Abstract

ABSTRACT In the process of data exchange between headquarters and branch offices required technology that can secure the data. VPN is a technology that makes personal network (private) by using the public network in order to secure data exchange process, as applied in Dinhubkominfo Banyumas. Data exchanged by Dinhubkominfo have the shape of text data to service FTP, HTTP, financial data and attendance data. These data is important data that needs to be safeguarded, especially financial data. PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) and L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) is a VPN protocol options that can be used to exchange data between different networks. In this research, testing between both protocols by observing the parameters of throughput, delay, jitter, and packet loss to know which protocol has the best performance. The process of data collection is done using FTP and HTTP services with the addition of the traffic load of 512 kbps, 1024 kbps and 2048 kbps. From observation it was found that the performance of PPTP is better than L2TP refers to the results obtained in this study. On the FTP service, the value of the PPTP throughput greater 3,375 KBps than L2TP, PPTP delay values smaller 3.513 ms than L2TP, PPTP jitter values smaller 1.077 ms than L2TP. In HTTP service, PPTP throughput value greater 2,959 KBps than L2TP, PPTP delay value smaller 2.11 ms than L2TP, PPTP jitter values smaller 2.062 ms than L2TP. However, both PPTP and L2TP packet loss has a value of 0%, which means that no packets are lost during data transmission. Keywords : VPN, Tunneling, PPTP, L2TP, dan QoS
