Abstract
The importance of implementing Good Corporate Governance in improving company performance is an inseparable aspect. In this study, the role of Good Corporate Governance on the performance of coal mining companies is tested over the period 2018 to 2022 with variables representing these aspects including institutional ownership, the presence of independent commissioners, and the presence of managerial ownership. This study involves companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. A total of 17 coal energy companies with a total of 85 observations were tested using R Studio software. This study evaluates the performance of a company through a comparison between the ratio of net profit after tax to the amount of capital it owns, known as return on equity. This research method uses a quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis with data analysis techniques used are descriptive statistical tests, preliminary tests (chow tests, hausman tests, and lagrange multiplier tests), classical assumption tests (normality tests, multicollinearity tests, heteroscedasticity tests and autocorrelation tests), and hypothesis testing. Based on the preliminary test results, this study uses a random effect model to test the relationship between variables. This study resulted in a regression equation Return On Equity = 0.31369 - 2.60429KM + 0.13039KI - 0.35710Kin. The results of this study indicate that managerial ownership has a significant negative effect on return on equity. Meanwhile, institutional ownership variables and independent commissioners have no effect on return on equity. Keywords : Good Corporate Governance, Coal Production Companies, Company Performance.
