Abstract

Weather monitoring in a region is crucial for human life. Through weather monitoring, people can avoid natural disasters caused by adverse weather conditions or plan their daily activities effectively. NOAA 18 and 19 weather satellites have contributed significantly to Earth weather monitoring by continuously scanning the Earth's surface and transmitting the data. Processing the weather data sent by NOAA satellites requires ground stations capable of capturing these satellite signals and processing them. Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology serves as a primary tool for satellite weather data reception systems. This research aims to explore the implementation of RTL SDR as a weather data receiver tool. With RTL SDR, a NOAA weather satellite data receiver system can be developed at a frequency of 137 MHz, accompanied by decoding software to convert audio signals into Earth surface images. In this study, RTL-SDR will be combined with a V-Dipole antenna and software such as WXtoIMG and SDR Sharp. Researchers will analyze the required bandwidth, signal power during transmission, and the quality of received weather images as research parameters. The study finds that the bandwidth and signal power obtained during the transmission process significantly affect the quality of the received images. Keywords : ground station, NOAA, RTL SDR, satellite, weather
