Abstract

Quality control needs to be conducted by every company in its efforts to maintain or enhance the quality of the products it produces. One of the companies that hasn't been quite optimal in implementing quality control is Sentra Keramik Usaha Karya with its teapot product, as evidenced by a defect percentage of over 10% for the production period from August 2021 to July 2022. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of defects and provide improvement suggestions to minimize the error rate that results in defective products. The method used in this research is six sigma with a DMAIC approach. Six sigma is a structured quality control method that focuses on reducing process variation and decreasing defects to no more than 3.4 defective units in a million possible productions. In the define phase, it is revealed that there are three types of defects: cracks, deformities, and fractures. Based on the results of measurements in the measure phase, the average DPMO value is found to be 20579.579, and the average sigma value is 3.59. In the analyze phase, it's determined that the causes of defects in cracks, deformities, and fractures are attributed to man, machine, method, material, and environmental factors. In the improve phase, improvement suggestions are proposed using the 5W+1H method, such as conducting regular training, setting raw material standards, performing routine checks on machines before each production process, replacing damaged machine components, conducting multiple raw material filtering processes, providing appropriate working hours, and cleaning the production area from unused or unnecessary items.
